Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Main purpose of the role

To identify, report, and service / repair equipment or processes in order they become more efficient, more cost effective, safer to operate, and more environmentally friendly; the main aims being to limit downtime and maximise output, in a safe and food-safe manner, in line with Company Policies and Procedures.

To ensure that internal customer requirements are met, by providing electrical, mechanical, and engineering services to Operations and the Site, in order to operate equipment and services safely and efficiently.

To maintain and improve the equipment effectiveness and operability by helping implement an effective PPM system and other methods of monitoring performance or wear and tear.

To provide an efficient breakdown response service, including via the On-Call system, in order to minimise downtime and maximise output, Quality, and Safety.

Responsibilities

Maintenance Aspects:

The main duties, responsibilities and accountabilities for this role are summarised as follows:

To provide an efficient breakdown response service as and when required, in order to minimise downtime and maximise output, Quality, and Safety.

*

To help implement an effective Preventative Maintenance system in line with schedules and availability of equipment and plant access.

*

To provide an Engineering support service to all aspects of the site in line with business requirements.

*

To be aware of and complete (where applicable) any safe systems of work method statements, including from contractors.

*

In conjunction with the Engineering Manager, to participate in agreed rotas to ensure sufficient Engineering cover is provided on site, at the time it is required.

*

To acknowledge and be aware of the environmental impact of the Operational processes and to minimise this impact (waste, emissions, contamination, loss etc.) whenever practical.

*

To be aware and involved with Site Security (inc. TACCP) and to vigilantly ensure you follow and enforce requirements.

*

To complete paperwork records and electronic records relating to work assignments, PPM's, and work requests as they are requested and/or completed in a timely manner

*

To complete production-orientated work requests and hand-back paperwork/complete on Pirana.

*

To ensure all accidents / incidents are reported to the duty Shift Manager, to assist and lead the investigations process, root cause analysis and corrective/preventative measures as required

*

To utilise the Sage 200 system in order to place orders for spares, repairs, services, equipment, etc., as required or requested.

Additional Responsibilities:

*

Providing emergency cover for the Engineering Manager if required.

*

To supervise the more junior Engineering team members.

*

Working with the Operations Team, to constantly review requirements for improvements.

*

Working with H & S and your immediate Line Manager to oversee maintenance / service contractors on site.

*

To work with your Line Manager and team on the proactive measures on updating and implementing company Health & Safety strategy.

*

Risk Assessments - Working in conjunction with Management on the company's continuous development of Health & Safety Policies and the preparation, maintenance, and review of equipment, process, and chemical risk assessments.

*

Attendance at Site Safety Committee Meetings as required.

*

Working closely with NPD and Production in the Trials Process.

*

Commissioning of new capital equipment and technologies.

*

Working within your team and with management to look at ways to continuously improve the process, training, people and downtime

*

To lead by example, demonstrating best practice and in line with Company values.

*

To participate in projects assigned from the Company's project list and / or site developments as assigned by your Manager.

*

To participate in Continuous Improvement Groups as required.

*

Participation in Trials processes as required.

General:

*

To ensure and to adhere to and proactively promote Company policies on Food Safety, Health & Safety and good Environmental practices.

*

To ensure all accidents / incidents are reported to your immediate Line Manager.

*

To be aware of the Company quality and hygiene standards and to observe and practice these standards in the course of carrying out the duties required.
