Brighton College is seeking to appoint a Teaching Assistant (with a responsibility for neurodiverse pupils) to start in August 2024. 

Main purpose of the role: In this role you will be expected to monitor, assess, record and report on the achievement, progress and development of selected neurodiverse pupils. The post-holder will provide feedback and progress to the Head of Learning Support and Strategies to support each pupil’s learning. You will establish productive working relationships with these pupils; acting as a role model and setting high expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

Working with pupils in a range of learning environments, observing within the classroom, working in groups or 1:1, as appropriate;
Preparing materials and resources to support individual pupils, small groups and whole class activities;
Assessing the needs of each pupil you are working with and use detailed knowledge and specialist skills to support their learning;
Creating pupil ILPs (Individual Learner Profiles) as required and work with teachers to embed learning strategies specific to these pupils;
Delivering specified learning activities for pupils as appropriate and record and monitor progress;
Promoting each pupil’s independence and self-advocacy; employing strategies to recognise and reward achievement of self-reliance;
Providing information, guidance and support on each pupil’s learning to support teachers;
Providing feedback to the pupils in relation to progress and achievement.

Person Specification:

The successful candidate will have experience in the following areas:

Excellent communication skills;
Good time management skills;
Highly organised;
Emotional intelligence and empathy;
The ability to face and overcome challenging situations;
A flexible and ‘can-do’ attitude;
Experience of working with neurodiverse people is desirable, but not essential.

Safeguarding Responsibilities:

This role will involve daily contact with pupils and you will be engaging in regulated activity relevant to children.
All staff and volunteers have a responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.

Hours of Work: This role is anticipated to start at the end of August 2024. This is a term-time (35 weeks) appointment, working 8.00am-5.00pm with a 60 minute unpaid lunch break (40 hours per week) Monday to Friday inclusive.

Salary:

A salary in the range of £21,000 - £24,000 per annum will be offered for this role, depending on experience
