Support Worker – Days/Nights

Location: Redbourne Centre, North Lincolnshire

Pay: £11.44 per hour

Title:  Support worker

 Responsible to:   Deputy Manager / Registered Manager

 Hours: Full time and part time, up to 37.5 hours per week. The post will be rotational across a 7-day service, working nights, days and weekends.

 Principle responsibilities

 To assist, support and co-operate with all senior staff in the day to day routines of the unit, acting as an associate keyworker for designated residents and assuming appropriate responsibilities as directed.

 As a member of the Nursing care team, help to create a safe, educational and therapeutic environment based on the needs of the individuals and ensuring that their rights, dignity and personal privacy is maintained at all times.

 As designated, to assume certain responsibilities for the induction of new care staff.

 To ensure that your dress and appearance is always clean and tidy, suitable for the work undertaken.

 Follow written care plans and guidelines, working closely with residents to promote greater independence, with specific emphasis on developing gains in self-help and coping skills. 

 To encourage and assist residents to participate in a wide range of activities using local facilities wherever possible, thus developing positive contacts with the local community.

To help maintain high standards of health and hygiene by educating/assisting residents as necessary, in their personal care needs and in their choice and preparation of food.

 To use appropriate, authorised and agreed communication systems within and outside of the unit and attend review meetings as directed.

       To monitor the general health of residents, reporting any changes in physical or mental health condition and be involved in arranging appointments as appropriate, with the General Practitioner, Dentist, Chiropodist and any other professional where necessary.

To use recognised assessment systems and help develop individual care plans encouraging the participation of residents and their relatives within a multi-disciplinary framework.

 General responsibilities

To attend and participate in staff meetings and attend all mandatory training when required.
To attend supervision and appraisals ensuring that you have prepared for these when required.
To attend any other training when a need has been identified.
To assist with domestic duties in the home including cooking cleaning and laundry when the need arises.
To communicate effectively with other staff, relatives and visitors including professional agencies regarding residents and work in a collaborative way.
To answer the door and telephone courteously and respond accordingly.
Make visitors feel welcome. Provide refreshments/assistance when required.
To undertake any enquiries for the home by filling out the appropriate form in a courteous manner.
To assist fully with any inspections the Home may have from the CQC.
To report any faults/defects in the Home to the appropriate person or the Registered Manager.
To be fully aware of policies including fire policy and infection control.
To ensure you are familiar with all current policies and procedures and understand your duty to comply and implement them when necessary.
Be prepared to undertake any aspects of care or non-caring duties as requested.
To ensure that all communal areas are kept clean and tidy.
To ensure that residents rooms are adequately heated and/or ventilated and that they have appropriate clothes on for the time of year.
Understand your duty to whistle blow if you witness bad practice or harm to a resident within the Home.
To promote and ensure the good reputation of the Home at all times.

 The post holder must at all times respect the confidentiality of information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018.  This includes, if required to do so, obtain, process and/or use information held on a computer in a fair and lawful way, to hold data only for the specified registered purposes and to use or disclose data only to authorised persons or organisations as instructed.
