Job Title: Teaching Assistant - Alternative Provision for SEMH Students

Location: Telford, West Midlands

Winner Education is currently working with a leading provider of alternative provision for students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in Telford. We are dedicated to supporting the holistic development of young people, providing tailored educational opportunities that meet their individual needs.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to and work closely with 2-3 young people attending the provision. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of vulnerable young people, supporting their learning and personal development in a supportive and nurturing environment.

Responsibilities:

Support the young people who attend the provision, providing individualized support to meet their educational and emotional needs.
Create an individual learning plan for each young person, identifying goals and strategies to support their progress.
Support young people to achieve their qualifications, providing guidance and assistance as needed.
Prepare learning areas for the young people, ensuring resources are accessible and conducive to learning.
Record and report student progress, documenting achievements and areas for development.
Help students stay focused during classes, providing encouragement and redirection when necessary.
Supervise group activities, promoting positive behaviour and engagement.
Provide a healthy and safe learning environment for students, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures.
Establish a positive and interactive relationship with each young person, fostering trust and rapport.
Attend team meetings and training sessions as arranged, contributing to collaborative working practices.
Engage in multi-agency work, liaising with professionals from different sectors to meet the holistic needs of young people.

Requirements:

Teaching Assistant Level 2 qualification or equivalent.
Proven experience of working directly with young people, particularly those with SEMH needs.
Active listening skills, with the ability to empathize and respond to the needs of young people.
Ability to encourage learning and promote positive behaviour.
Understanding and sensitivity towards children, recognizing the impact of trauma and adversity.
Ability to remain calm during challenging situations, demonstrating resilience and patience.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt communication styles as needed.
IT skills, including the use of Outlook and other relevant systems required for the job.
Ability to plan and manage own workload effectively, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
Personal commitment to addressing the needs of socially excluded young people, those not in education, training, or employment, and those with additional needs.
Understanding of safeguarding, PREVENT, and the National Referral Mechanism (NRM).
Able to work in a trauma-informed approach, recognizing and responding to the impact of trauma on young people's lives.
