POSITION PURPOSE
Under general supervision of the Director, the Staffing Coordinator assumes responsibility for staffing all assigned departments, including contract or agency personnel.  Assists service-line directors in one or more patient care areas by providing varied administrative support functions requiring confidentiality and discretion.  Displays proactive problem resolution and needs assessment to efficiently manage staffing requirements and scheduling processes in collaboration with leadership. 
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Performs assigned daily staffing and scheduling functions to meet specific requirements of nursing units with the goal of safe patient care in accordance with nursing administration policies, standards and procedures.
2. Scheduling:   Develops computerized schedules for assigned units based on established staffing patterns, policies, employee preferences, and manager’s requests.  Minimizes overtime and other premium pay. Revises and adjusts unit schedules as needed in consultation with department leadership. Consults with leaders regarding staffing and scheduling needs, such as creating flexible staffing alternatives. Attends “huddle” meetings with House Supervisor/Nursing Leadership to plan for volume and census changes.
3. Staffing:   Reviews patient census and acuity information. Continually adjusts and allocates core, float and relief personnel to provide adequate coverage to meet staffing requirements on a daily basis.  Assists with disaster/emergency preparedness planning.  Assists in developing and implementing contingency plans to ensure adequate staffing in the event of a major disaster or emergency.
4. Reports:   Provides leadership with reports from databases, scheduling and other applications providing such information as patient volume and acuity levels, attendance, productivity and staffing rosters, etc.
5. Payroll/Timekeeping:  Checks and corrects timesheets to facilitate accurate recording of time and use of appropriate pay codes, allowing directors to more efficiently approve payroll.
6. Contract labor: Acts as a liaison between travel agencies and the hospital.  Reconciles timecards to contract invoices.
7. Displays professional behavior, strong business acumen and maintains strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
8. Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory meetings and education requirements.  Attends a minimum of 75% of department staff meetings.
9. Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
10. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High school diploma or GED required. 
Experience: Prior experience in staffing or scheduling in a hospital setting is strongly preferred.
Required Skills: Strong computer/technology skills, interpersonal skills, oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently, prioritize, handle multiple projects and tasks, with attention to detail.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent: sitting, standing, walking, & reaching.
Occasional: lifting, carrying, bending, & squatting,
Visual and hearing acuity required.  Work is inside, with good ventilation and comfortable temperature.
Possible exposure to: toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens.
