Red Snapper Recruitment are seeking several Communication Managers to work on a 5 month contract with the MET in London.
Location: London
Contract: 4 to 5-month contract with potential extension and a potential perm position
Work hours: Full time – Office Hours
Salary: £234.09 to £272.40 per day PAYE & £300 to £350 per day Umbrella

Main duties and responsibilities
The roles are centred around media and communication, necessitating both proactive and reactive skills within a news desk environment. Candidates must be adept at handling media inquiries and crafting proactive, positive narratives about the Met. As the team is in transition, the MPS are seeking versatile media communication managers to join our evolving structure. The MPS have encountered difficulties in recruitment due to candidates being overqualified, which could potentially result in dissatisfaction or insufficient challenge. Hence, they are looking for candidates with a practical, ‘can-do’ attitude. Leadership and strategic thinking, while valuable, are not the primary qualities we’re seeking.”
This role presents an exciting opportunity for candidates aiming to enhance their experience in one of Europe’s busiest communications teams. This position fosters innovative engagement with media, communities, and stakeholders, allowing candidates to make a meaningful difference
Media Inquiry Management: Candidates are required to be competent and confident in managing media inquiries, with a clear understanding of whom to reach out to for support. They should be capable of making informed decisions based on their experience. Additionally, they may be asked to assist external media with features, radio or television interviews, or even accompany them during operations as well as proving borough command units with support with media enquiries.

* Busy News Environment: Experience in a fast-paced news setting is crucial, especially for reactive roles.

* Writing and Briefing Skills: Proficiency in condensing complex information into understandable content.
* Crisis Handling: The role involves managing challenging news and dealing with daily crises, necessitating strong reactive capabilities when responding to incidents like murders.
* Sensitive Information: Access to sensitive crime systems and or disturbing information may be part of the role, highlighting the need for discretion and sound judgment.
* Storytelling: Crafting proactive, positive stories about the Met, which involves creative thinking and understanding audiences. Ability to identify and drive proactive communication opportunities.
* Media Savvy: Experience in a busy news environment, particularly for reactive roles.
* Writing and Briefing: Quality writing skills to condense complex information into understandable content.
* Judgement and Decision-Making: Good judgement and experience to manage media inquiries and navigate the organization.
* Flexibility and Multitasking: The roles demand flexibility to handle a fast-paced environment and the ability to juggle multiple tasks effectively.
* Support & Training: Newcomers will receive support and training to navigate the organisation and handle sensitive information, with access to welfare and trauma-informed support if needed.
* Operational Environment: Candidates should expect a fast-paced environment with the need Private or public sector experience. Candidate who have worked in a public sector who may hold or have been recently cleared by a central government department or police force would be ideal
