Job Summary
 Urban Grid is actively seeking an experienced HSSE Director responsible for ensuring the safe and sustainable operation of utility-scale solar development projects in the construction phase and subsequent long-term ownership and operation. This position will be crucial in ensuring the successful completion of the project by being proactive in risk identification and mitigation, engaging with the project contracted EPC HSSE leads and EPC company HSSE organization, and providing timely response and remediation of incidents across each project. This role will also involve developing, implementing, and maintaining HSSE policies and procedures, conducting risk assessments, and promoting a culture of safety, security, and environmental stewardship internal to Urban Grid and coordinating with external parties to ensure the best HSSE practices and Parent Company standards are being met.
Responsibilities
Assist in planning, implementing, and directing the project’s Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental Program.
Assist with managing all aspects of HSSE for all contractors selected for projects.
Establish, review, and update a comprehensive accident investigation and reporting program.
Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize project disruptions.
Monitor and manage project risks throughout the construction phase and the operations phase.
Collaborate with Contractor Site Safety Teams gathering the necessary data required for various reporting requirements.
Develop cordial working relationships with all Contractor and Subcontractor Project Safety leads and establish a regular cadence of engagement.
Conduct periodic inspections and audits, investigate accidents, and perform trend analysis on risks and incidents, finding root causes and applying the appropriate prevention methods.
Coordinate, conduct, and track safety-related training programs for employees and oversee required OSHA recordkeeping.
Maintain safety directives and accident reports.
Provide indoctrination and education for all employees (including subcontractors).
Coordinate with the occupational specialists to support with industrial requirements.
Provide necessary assistance or advice to program/contract management on matters pertaining to health, safety, security, and environment.
Ensure emergency response plans are adequately publicized to minimize reaction time to emergencies.
Provide guidance and training to contract and subcontractor personnel as required by corporate and customer directions.
Provide HSSE assessments and estimates for reviews.
Coach and mentor programs leadership, driving HSSE improvement.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or HSSE related field.
12 + years of progressive field experience on large scale projects 3 + of which should be in management.
Experience supporting, implementing, and directing HSSE systems in Medium Voltage and General Industrial construction for both direct hire and fully contracted environments.
Certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Knowledge of OSHA requirement and regulations and all other safety related federal, state, and local requirements.
Must be self-motivated and be able to work both individually and/or in a collaborative team environment with minimal guidance.
Excellent organization skills, attention to detail and problem solving.
Excellent verbal, written, and analytical skills with gravitation towards responsibility.
Strong work ethic and exceptionally high work standards.
Must be able to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
Professional understanding of the pertinent elements of engineering, physical science, ergonomics, psychology, industrial hygiene, physiology, and other scientific and technological fields which contribute to the achievement of comprehensive HSSE objectives.
Ability to develop HSSE standards, regulations, practices, and procedures to eliminate or control potential hazards and/or to reduce the frequency, severity and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses with a specific focus on Medium Voltage high risk incidents.
Ability to comply with all established methods, quality standards, and time schedules applicable to this position.
Effectively demonstrate high critical thinking/reasoning ability.
