Job Description
Position Overview:
The Behavior Support Specialist will lead support for students with special needs to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. The Behavior Support Specialist will provide critical guidance to Lead Teachers to ensure that all staff are complying with and meeting the needs of students with special needs.
Responsibilities of the Behavior Support Specialist will include, but are not limited to:
Proactive Responsibilities:
Work closely with the Assistant Principal of Culture and Assistant Principal of Student Support Services to establish a positive, structured, and achievement-oriented school culture.
Assist in the implementation of positive school investment systems.
Work closely with the student support team to conduct functional behavior assessments (FBA) and design behavior intervention plans (BIP).
Support teachers in building relationships with students and parents.
Model core values at all times.
Lead walkthroughs regularly to provide feedback and coaching.
Facilitate in-services/workshops for staff and parents regarding behavior systems.
Coach and model effective use of Dean’s List and the behavior system.
Provide additional coaching and support to teachers as needed.
Coach related service providers (which could include but is not limited to transportation staff, related arts teachers, occupational therapist, teachers, etc..)
Collect and analyze student behavior data to share trends with stakeholders
 Reactive Responsibilities:
Facilitate and monitor the implementation of specific behavioral intervention plans.
Assist teachers, students, and parents in the creation and implementation of support plans for struggling students.
Reinforce the effective use of the school-wide behavior plan, including the school’s merit and demerit system.
Monitor behavioral pull-outs and resets during the school day.
Support the implementation and oversight of after school detentions.
Monitor the hallways.
Support and diffuse excessively disruptive or aggressive behavior during which time the employee may need to restrain, hold, lift, or apply physical management techniques and crisis intervention techniques (employee will receive all necessary training for proper implementation)
Respond to any issues on the bus, as delegated.
