Job Description
Timmons Group is seeking an Electrical Medium Voltage Engineer II/III for our Power Engineering & System Planning Group in our Charlotte, NC office. The position’s core responsibilities creating collector system layout design for renewable energy project deliverables. Projects range in size, complexity, and voltage class. Opportunities to advance into leadership/management roles are available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:
Participate in preparation of proposals and scope development, including:
Conceptual designs and execution plans
Engineering/project cost estimates and schedules
Execution of engineering activities
Work with the DC designers or the Wind Turbine Layout in preparation of collector system including installation plan and details
Perform AC cable ampacity calculations
Analyze and determine feeder loading
Assist with Utility interconnection support
Prepare IEEE Effective grounding study to confirm safe step-and-touch potentials
Arc flash studies Hazard Assessment low and medium voltage
Evaluate system short circuit and voltage profile.
Review static reactive capabilities and size the reactive power equipment accordingly
Lightning shielding study to verify the apparatus is protected against direct lightning strikes
Interface with Utility, as required, in the design of capacitor and LTC controls for various system configurations
Other Studies include transient Switching, Load Flow Study, Power Factor, Transient Over-Voltage (TOV) and Harmonic Analysis Study
Equipment specifications for procurement and/or factory acceptance testing
Coordinate design activities with other departments (Civil/Structural, Networks, Transmission Line, etc.)
Develop and improve processes, tools and/or technology implementations
Provide training and mentoring to less experienced engineers and team members
Other areas of involvement may include 3D modeling/design, or industry/professional technical committee involvement
Skills/Requirements of a successful candidate include but are not limited to:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from accredited program
Minimum 3-5 years related experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience)
Engineer In Training Certification / Professional Engineer registration strongly preferred
Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE / ANSI Standard
Strong preference for those withExcellent written & verbal communication skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Capability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures, and criteria
