Senior Accountant

Position Overview:The Senior Accountant will play a crucial role in managing financial activities and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting for our farming operations. This position requires a strong accounting background, exceptional attention to detail, and previous experience in the agricultural or farming industry. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of farming operations, cost accounting principles, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and financial reporting for farming activities.
Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance reports for farming operations.
Perform cost accounting activities, including tracking and analyzing production costs, inventory valuation, and crop yields.
Collaborate with farm managers and agronomists to develop and maintain cost allocation methodologies, budgeting processes, and performance metrics.
Ensure compliance with industry regulations, tax laws, and internal controls related to farming operations.
Conduct internal audits and reviews of farming processes and controls to identify areas for improvement and mitigate risks.
Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making and operational planning for farming activities.
Assist in the implementation of accounting systems, tools, and processes to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.
Train and mentor junior accounting staff on accounting principles, farming operations, and industry best practices.
Stay informed about industry trends, market dynamics, and emerging technologies in agriculture and farming.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA designation preferred.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a focus on agricultural or farming operations.
Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting standards (GAAP), and cost accounting methodologies.
Experience working with farming software and ERP systems (e.g., AgriSight, Granular, FarmLogs) preferred.
Knowledge of agricultural regulations, tax incentives, and government programs related to farming operations.
Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
