Position Overview:We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Grower Accountant to join our team. The Grower Accountant will be responsible for managing all financial aspects related to agricultural operations, including crop production, harvest, and grower payments. This role will play a crucial part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, analyzing operational costs, and providing insights to support decision-making processes within the agricultural sector.
Responsibilities:
Grower Payment Processing:
Oversee the timely and accurate processing of grower payments, including reconciling grower accounts and ensuring compliance with contract terms.
Collaborate with growers to resolve payment discrepancies and inquiries.
Maintain accurate records of grower transactions and payments.
Crop Cost Analysis:
Analyze crop production costs, including seed, fertilizer, labor, and equipment expenses.
Monitor variances between actual costs and budgeted amounts.
Provide insights on cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
Harvest Accounting:
Manage accounting processes related to harvest activities, including inventory valuation and reconciliation.
Ensure accurate recording of harvested crops and associated costs.
Coordinate with operations teams to streamline harvest accounting procedures.
Financial Reporting:
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports related to grower accounting and crop production.
Provide analysis and commentary on financial performance, highlighting key trends and variances.
Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and explanations as needed.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Assist in the development of annual budgets and forecasts for crop production and grower payments.
Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis.
Collaborate with growers and operations teams to develop realistic production plans and financial projections.
Compliance and Risk Management:
Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and internal policies.
Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate financial risks.
Stay abreast of industry developments and changes in accounting standards affecting agricultural operations.
Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA designation preferred.
3+ years of experience in accounting roles, preferably within the agriculture or farming industry.
Strong understanding of agricultural operations and accounting principles.
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and advanced MS Excel skills.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with growers and cross-functional teams.
Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
