Strategy and Engagement Manager
Birmingham, West Midlands (with hybrid working)

As a Strategy and Engagement Manager at the Gambling Commission, you will play an important role in shaping our strategic direction and priorities to effectively regulate the gambling industry. You will work closely with senior leadership, internal teams, and external stakeholders on strategic and crosscutting projects. You will be part of a team responsible for identifying risks and opportunities for continuous improvement within a wider organisation which is proudly accredited as a Great Place to Work.

- Hybrid working, specific guidelines are to be agreed with line manager

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic analysis and assessment:

- You will conduct thorough analysis of internal and external factors impacting our regulation of the gambling industry
- You will identify emerging challenges and opportunities and formulate strategic recommendations to address them effectively
- You will assess and utilise evidence from a range of sources including data, research, and information from across the Commission, from other regulators and Government departments
- You will summarise analysis into coherent and evidence-based recommendations for colleagues including Executive team and our Board of Commissioners

Project delivery:

- You will contribute to and lead cross-cutting or strategic projects championing the value of collaborative working
- You will be responsible for ensuring work is planned and delivered to time managing internal and external stakeholders as required
- You will manage the performance of colleagues contributing to the delivery of projects who will often be from different teams across the organisation

Providing internal support:

- You will provide support and guidance related to your areas of responsibility, building strong internal working relationships to help support the delivery of the Gambling Commission’s Corporate Strategy
- You will be responsible for maintaining an up-to-date awareness and knowledge of subject areas you are working on
- You will contribute to and represent the strategy team in cross-organisation initiatives and working groups identifying and helping deliver positive changes

Stakeholder Engagement:

- You will represent the Gambling Commission in meetings, conferences, and public forums to gather insight and understanding and help inform others of our work

Person Specification

Essential:

- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyse data and information related to regulation to identify risks and opportunities and develop effective strategies to address them.
- Experience of producing high-quality briefing, position papers and other reports or publications for internal and external audiences
- Strategic Planning: Awareness of strategic planning processes, including setting objectives, conducting SWOT analysis, and developing action plans to achieve organisational objectives
- Project Management: Experience in managing projects from initiation to completion, including defining project scope, setting timelines, and reporting on progress
- Stakeholder Management: Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders
- Continuous Learning and Adaptability: Willingness to stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices through continuous learning and professional development
- Ability to self-motivate and manage a workload to agreed timelines

Desirable:

- Knowledge, experience or interest in gambling, gambling regulation or another regulated industry.

We do this by keeping crime out, protecting children and vulnerable people and ensuring the commercial gambling industry is run fairly and openly.
