Trainee Technical Author, Aircraft
Location: Letchworth, Hertfordshire - Hybrid option
Salary: £28 - 30k, DOE + Benefits (Rising to £32 - 34k on qualification)
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Full Time, Permanent

Trainee Complier / Technical Author - The Role:

As a member of our technical publications team, you will support the creation and updates to a suite of technical documentation, gaining invaluable real-world skills and experience.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Compiling and maintaining Illustrated Parts Lists from the customer’s engineering database (Bill of Materials, engineering drawings)
• Liaising with the customer’s engineering teams and on-site support teams to resolve technical queries
• Creating technical documentation from individual data modules to full maintenance manuals for a varied range of clients
• Working closely with other Technical Authors and Illustrators
Trainee Complier / Technical Author – Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
You will need to be a graduate that has studied engineering; Aeronautical/Aerospace, Electrical/Electronic or Mechanical Engineering and have an exposure to Technical Publications.
• Aeronautical, Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering degree or equivalent qualification
• Working with Engineering Drawings, Manufacturer’s Production Processes and 3D models
• A working knowledge or keen interest in the aviation industry
• A working knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management and/or Content Management applications
• Good understanding of Quality Control processes
• An understanding of Simplified Technical English (STE) rules
• A working knowledge of Cortona Rapid Suite, Arbortext Editor or other XML editors / content management systems is an advantage, but training will be provided
The right candidate will have the following skills and background;
• Good understanding of engineering data in a variety of formats from engineering drawings to design reports
• A pro-active approach to problem solving and investigation
• Strong communications skills and ability to work as part of an international team
• The ability to communicate technical information in a clear and concise manner
• The ability to track production of tasks from conception to completion
• The ability to manage multiple tasks at once and providing reports to the Project Coordinator
• The ability to remain flexible and adapt to changing customer requirements
• The ability to work to tight deadlines with minimal supervision
• Initiative, drive and adaptability to build your career, with support from our leaders
• Drive and enthusiasm to achieve customer quality criteria
• A love of learning and of applying new perspectives to your work
