Embedded Systems Engineer

For over 40 years, our client has been leading the way in hazardous area static grounding control, globally serving industries where processes generating static electricity have the potential to ignite flammable or combustible atmospheres. The product range mitigates static charge accumulation by using practical and innovative design and ensures effective static control on three levels – grounding and bonding clamps, visual verification and inter-lockable control systems. Their New Product Development team play a pivotal role in ensuring they remain leaders in static grounding control. Due to their continued development and growth, we are looking for a passionate, capable and diligent Embedded Systems Engineer to join the small team.

The Role:

You will be heavily involved in all design aspects from the initial concepts through to product release and will be charged with writing code in the following languages: Embedded C/C++, Python (or similar for unit testing). It is no secret that software solutions are rapidly becoming more prevalent with the rise of Industry 4.0. This role offers a unique opportunity to learn new languages such as Java, SQL etc., to develop prototype systems and/or platforms that may influence the Company’s future.

You will be:

* Executing full lifecycle software development, from test to release, in accordance with industrial safety standards (IEC 61508, SIL2).

* Producing specifications and determine operational feasibility.

* Programming modular, testable, efficient code.

* Develop software verification plans and quality assurance procedures (in line with IEC 61508 and any other applicable standards).

* Assist with system architecture at product specification phase (in collaboration with the rest of the Engineering team).

* Write and maintain all required documentation for relevant standards.

* Assist with hardware design (schematic and layout).

This role will suit candidates who have a desire to work in a small team who are proud to protect the safety of others and have:

* A BEng or BSc degree in Computer Science, Engineering or relevant field.

* Proven work experience as an Engineer (Firmware, Embedded Software or Electronics).

* Proficient in Embedded C/C++.

* Some experience in schematic design (Preferably Altium Designer).

* Sophisticated communication and interpersonal skills, able to work as part of a small team.

Should you also have experience of IEC61508, IEC (phone number removed), the internet of things, and are familiar with protocols such as UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet, Ethernet IP etc., would also be beneficial.

Although flexible working arrangements are available, there will be an expectation for you to be able to attend the site in Colwick, Nottingham on a regular basis. In return we offer a top quartile salary, bonus c10%, private healthcare, income protection, life assurance and pension
