MDE are hiring for an experienced Packaging Engineer to support with the packaging projects for high profile customers to ensure customer satisfaction and a quality service.

Role Summary

As a Packaging Engineer you wil be reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager (EM) The role will require working and project delivery within regional plants when required. This role is pivotal in creating unique and customised packaging solutions, with both customers and suppliers. The ideal candidate will possess a creative flair, technical expertise in packaging design and quality control of the product into the customer, with a deep understanding of the end user's requirements and expectations. The specified packaging concepts will meet project deliverables in compliance with customer government regulations. Maintaining documentation and online project tasks (Gateways). Ensuring group standards are followed whilst still driving improvements, innovation and future needs.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and evaluate customer packaging requirements to support NPI sales quotation.
Lead and deliver packaging product solutions on time.
Manage allocated projects through a structured, gated process from the concept/quotation stage, right to production-handover.
Include transport analysis and evaluation of suitability within Logistics areas.
Support capacity analysis, deliver flow charts and value stream map.
Study production, facilities, environment and machine requirements to ensure required flow.
Design, develop packaging concepts to VAVE solutions.
Manage project timing plans and report to program managers.
Identify and recommend appropriate packaging materials based on product specifications, budget constraints, best methods and sustainability considerations.
Integrate disparate systems (e.g. equipment handling, transport)
Integrate sustainable and eco-friendly practices into packaging design and material choices, in alignment with industry trends and client demands.
Optimize facility layouts, production lines, machine operations and network performance.
Ensure mistake proofing is integrated into solutions using risk analysis.
Find ways to reduce costs and maximize quality.
Collaborate closely with clients to understand their specific requirements, objectives, and branding guidelines.
Documentation: Maintain detailed records of designs, specifications, and project progress for future reference and client communication.
Collaborate with other engineers, contractors, and suppliers.
Ensure that manufacturing procedures follow safety and environmental regulations.
To implement where appropriate new or simplified technologies with the Plant, Design and Development teams.
To assist manufacturing through optimising processes and work layouts etc. to ensure capacity is available, existing plant use is maximised, and material movement is minimised using simulations.
Technical decisions/guidance to the business and flow-down projects requirements to minimise WIP.
Actively implement, manage, and analyse continuous improvement activities using lean principles and tools such as PFMEA, Process Flow, Value Stream Mapping and standard operations.
To support the Technical and NPI team in all aspects of the Engineering function regarding new product / design change introduction including cost tracking.
To undertake risk assessments for use and movement of packaging.
To liaise with all departments, as well as customers and suppliers.
To support H/S manager and ensure there is adherence to Health, Safety and Environmental procedures at all times.
Keep statistical and financial records and work with finance to manage budgets.

Required Skills and Experience (The Person):

Ideally degree qualified, although other qualifications and relevant experience, particularly with an Automotive Tier 1 are also acceptable.
At least 4 years relevant experience within a Manufacturing Engineering environment
Experience of Lean, Kaizen and structured problem solving tools
Experience of raising Cap-Ex and driving cost reduction initiatives
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Self motivated with the ability to build working relationships to drive and deliver results working alone and as part of a team
Good IT Skills including Visio, VSM, Microsoft Office applications are essential
Experience of injection mould processing, painting and related plastics assembly processes
An understanding of PFMEA and Risk Management, as well as HSE controlling the impacts of manufacturing processes.
Full UK driving license with a flexible approach to travel.
