Cityworx are recruiting a Headteacher to lead a specialist independent school for pupils aged 7-19 years with Social, Emotional and Mental Heath (SEMH) needs.
The mission is to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student can thrive and reach their full potential.
The core purpose of the Headteacher’s role is to provide professional and strategic leadership and management of the school that will establish a secure foundation from which to achieve high standards in all areas of the school’s work.
To achieve success, a Headteacher will need to provide vision, leadership, and direction to guide the school effectively. Managing teaching and learning is crucial, as is promoting excellence, equality, and high expectations of all pupils. Additionally, deploying resources strategically to achieve the school's aims is essential. Evaluating school performance and identifying priorities for continuous improvement are key responsibilities that help maintain and enhance the quality of education. The Headteacher must also handle day-to-day management, organization, and administration, while securing the commitment of the wider community to support the school's objectives. Finally, it is vital to create a safe and productive learning environment that is engaging and fulfilling for all pupils, ensuring they have the opportunity to thrive.
The responsibilities of a Headteacher are comprehensive and critical to the success and development of the school. A Headteacher must strategically direct and shape the future by collaborating with the executive team and other stakeholders to ensure the school's vision is articulated, understood, and acted upon. They should translate this vision into objectives that enhance school improvement and embody the school's values in everyday practices, fostering a positive, shared culture within the school community.
Managing the organization involves creating an effective organizational structure aligned with the school’s values, ensuring compliance with legal standards, and implementing clear improvement plans. Efficient resource management is essential to achieve educational goals, alongside recruiting and managing staff to support these objectives. The school environment must also be managed to support the curriculum and comply with health and safety regulations.
Leading in learning and teaching, the Headteacher ensures that student achievement, safety, and well-being are prioritized. They establish a culture of challenge and support where all students can succeed and engage actively in their learning. High expectations are set, with a diverse and flexible curriculum that integrates new technologies to enhance learning experiences. Monitoring and promoting effective teaching practices are also key responsibilities.
Development of self and working with others involves continually reviewing personal practices, setting professional goals, and fostering staff development and performance. It's crucial to treat everyone with dignity and respect to maintain a positive school culture, delegate tasks effectively, and manage workloads to ensure a healthy work/life balance.

* SEMH – Social Emotional & Mental Health Difficulties
* ASC - Autistic Spectrum Condition
The successful applicants will need:
* Demonstrable experience working as a Head Teacher in a similar SEND environment.
* Have a good understanding about the School Improvement process, effective curriculum models and the development of process, maintain and build your understanding of requirements, helping the school move towards an outstanding rating
* Have a thorough understanding and knowledge of the Independent School Standards
* Ability to motivate, drive and support staff and pupils, using a person-centred approach
* A real ‘can do, will do’ attitude, with the desire to succeed and improve our school
* Excellent communication and top-quality relationship building skills
* Hold Qualified Teacher status
