Job Summary:
The Assistant Librarian provides support to students, faculty, and staff within the OCOM Library. Hours will vary depending on staff coverage needs.
Position start date: July 01, 2024
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Compile, maintain, and create statistical reports for library website, database, and electronic resource usage;
Assists with maintenance of electronic resources, library catalog, and library website to promote and support academic, clinical, and research needs of OCOM;
Provides reference services; answers reference questions in person, via telephone, email, and chat; provides instruction to students, faculty, and staff on the use of library resources;
Assists in acquisitions, processing, and cataloging of library materials; places and fills interlibrary loan requests; 
Identify, monitor, assess, and relay information about new and emerging technologies, including recommendations for adoption, management, and training;
Perform circulation duties, such as processing interlibrary loans, maintaining course reserves, circulating materials, handling overdue materials;
Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and students to identify opportunities for incorporating emerging technologies into teaching, learning, and research activities;
Develop, promote, and assess library services and resources in response to the training, curriculum, and research needs of OCOM faculty, staff, students, and others;
Identify learning and engagement opportunities to support student research and promote student success;
Acts as departmental representative with faculty, staff and visitors in a professional, friendly manner at all times;
Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and others;
Network, collaborate, and actively participate in local, regional, and national organizations;
Serve on/participate in college organizations, committees, task forces, and teams as appropriate, including library-level committees, task forces, and/or special projects;
Administration of the library in the absence of the library director;
Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited institution;
Minimum three years of experience in an academic health science library;
Excellent communication and customer service skills;
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal;
Strong organizational skills; must be accurate and attentive to detail.
Must be authorized to work in the United States.
Must be local to the Orlando, FL area.
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience managing projects and deadlines;
Demonstrated awareness of scholarly communication trends within higher education;
Experience in the deployment and configuration of software applications;
Experience with Integrated Library Systems, specifically Ex Libris’s Alma and Primo products;
Experience in developing scripts to interact with application programming interfaces (APIs);
Experience with web design and specifically, with Springshare products such as LibGuides; 
Experience with Apple products and software
Basic cataloging skills.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
