Under the direction of the Community Food Manager, the assistant supports the operations of the Community Food Bank, Co-manages the Community Kitchen, coordinates food rescue pickups, manages our volunteer website and registration, coordinates volunteers and food donation drives, participates in community outreaches, and manages data input. The assistant will also coordinate with other staff on reporting inventory. Assistant will ensure consistent implementation of best practices, designs, and deducts comprehensive program evaluation of food programs, and recommends new programs and new program directions as needed to address underserved communities and populations.
Requirements
Community Food
Support Community Food department staff as needed
Answering incoming food bank calls and assisting with scheduling appointments
Managing correspondence: handling emails, letters, and other forms of communication
Attend monthly community meetings as needed
Ensure Community Food vehicles are in working order and available for deliveries, pickups, and trips to recycling and landfill
Coordinate, schedule, prepare, and possibly deliver excess food sharing with county programs, such as Pullman Schools Pantry, ATVP, and WSU Women’s Center
Organize food donations from food drives conducted by churches, community groups, local farms, businesses, organizations, etc.
Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following safety practices and policies
Data Entry
Policy, Systems, and Environmental changes in the food bank, kitchen, and lobby
Data entry and filing: Inputting information into CAP60 and Pantrysoft databases and maintaining organized filing systems.
Coordinates with intake staff on reporting requirements and assist with monthly reports.
Keep, manage, and track records of volunteers’ information and work
Manage GivePulse volunteer program
Community Kitchen
Coordinate food repack, procurement and oversee process
Maintain repackaging supplies: ordering, stocking and organizing supplies as required
Coordinate food safety and handling
Ensure that the kitchen is clean and sanitized after each use
Co-manage kitchen renters
Volunteer Management
Source and recruit volunteers, collecting information on qualifications and skills
Coordinate, manage, and train volunteers into gardening, kitchen repack, food bank, and other programming around CAC
Assign volunteer responsibilities as appropriate
Follow up, appreciate, evaluate, give feedback, and ensure volunteers are satisfied by creating a healthy working environment
Work with CAC staff for volunteer placements
General Agency Responsibilities
Present proposals, project and program information at community meetings
Provide recommendations for improving CAC plans, policies, and operations
Work with other CAC staff members on general agency related issues
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
The problems and needs of people with limited income
Skills and Qualifications:
Familiarity with office software and equipment, including word processing, Canva, Excell, and email.
Attention to detail: Ability to maintain accuracy and thoroughness in completing tasks
Multitasking: Capability to handle multiple responsibilities simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities
Problem-solving skills: Aptitude for identifying issues and finding solutions independently or with minimal supervision.
Interpersonal skills: Ability to work well with others in a team-oriented environment and provide excellent customer service
Communicate effectively with people from various social and economic backgrounds
Maintain strict confidentiality procedures with sensitive information
Read, comprehend and follow program procedures, regulations and specifications
Ability to drive, have a valid driver’s license, and insurance
Ability to stand for long periods of time, reach, lift and bending
Ability to repeatedly lift a minimum of 50 lbs. and manipulate heavy objects
Work Environment:
Willingness to work throughout Whitman County
Occasional work occurs in varying temperatures, which may include heat and rain if assisting in the food bank or at an outreach event
Hours of operation mainly occur Monday – Friday, however there may be a few exceptions if we have a community outreach event that occurs in the evening or weekend.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in social work, human services, education or closely-related field; or high school diploma and four years’ experience
Preferred but not required: two years of related experience in the field of human services preferably involving food security, nutrition education, or equivalent
Preferred but not required: bilingual in Spanish
